Dr. Elana interviews guest Dr. Michelle Hu, a pediatric audiologist, mother of 3 and is a wearer of bilateral cochlear implants. Michelle is an advocate for the DHH community – DHH stands for deaf/hard of hearing. This is a community we have not yet honored on our podcast, and we couldn’t have chosen a better guest than Dr. Michelle.
Michelle is the founder of Mama Hu Hears, a space for DHH individuals and their families to access resources and to provide a source of strength and hope for parent’s and children with hearing loss. She shares both personal and professional information to help raise DHH awareness, empower hearing parents raise strong and confident DHH children, and improve advocacy skills.
Dr. Michelle recently launched her signature progam – “My Child has hearing loss, now what?” to help support parents who have children with a diagnosis of hearing loss navigate what to expect and most importantly feel EMPOWERED with their choices.
This interview is not only for the DHH community… it is for anyone who wants to really learn what this community goes through so we can empathize better, know what to say and what to do when we meet a DHH individual. *And also know what NOT to say or do! Ultimately, we want you to feel more equipped to support parent’s and kiddos who are part of the DHH community.
